My Pitch to FAL

Hi Batuhan! I’m excited about the possibility of joining FAL, a team I’ve long admired for its technical excellence. I wrote and deployed this blog as my cover letter.

My Technical Background

I understand FAL values research experience. While I don’t have formal publications yet, I have some experience in technical AI Safety:

• I attended AI Safety Fundamentals
• Participated in a SAE Research Hackathon where I made and ran evaluations for increasing CoT performance of Llama models
• Created a research project for Neel Nanda’s MATS program, analyzing inference-time scaling effects on CoT faithfulness (It was neutral lol)
• Wrote an analysis on my blog examining the circuits of a single layer Transformer that learned reverse modular addition

I also have full-stack experience:

• Currently working as Full-Stack Engineer at TÜBİTAK.
• Working on nationwide accounting systems with Java and PostgreSQL.
• Developed dashboards and interfaces with TypeScript + Next.js (its your tech stack as well!)

What I Offer

Dedication to one team:

• I’m currently in team matching for Google’s 2025 internship, however I would gladly prioritize FAL for the opportunity to work with such a high-caliber team.

Growth mindset:

• I’m eager to learn from FAL’s exceptional team, particularly in areas like large-scale systems, infrastructure, and performance optimization.
• My aim is to evolve from a broad technical background into a deep specialization in ML and infrastructure. I’m really impressed by the wide and deep background cast by Burkay, Görkem, Simo, you, and all others. I want to grow in this environment.

Flexibility:

• Available part-time. Full-time starting from Spring 2026

Full-stack background:

• My background is in full-stack engineering, but I really want to grow in the direction of infra/ML engineering. I will gladly engage in any position that is inbetween two of them.

My Value Proposition

I bring some research experience, full-stack experience, and I’m hungry to learn more. Collaborating with the team across the stack, I can work on FAL’s systems and dashboards, while also growing into deeper roles within the infrastructure and AI space. My long-term goal is to build a career at FAL, learning and evolving alongside the team.

I have explored lots of areas from competitive programming to AI safety. I’m now looking to transition from breadth to depth and commit to an exceptional team for a long time. I would really love that team to be FAL.
